BUILD: Big Thank You's a final Project Board meeting takes place

On Monday 10th September, the final BUILD Project Board meeting took place. Many, many meetings have taken place over the past 2-3 years in the lead up, during and following the completion of the Leigh Road Baptist Church's premise improvement.

Nobody loves a meeting, but Tim Willcock, Alun Howley, Julie Eady, Steven Hembery and Jane Brookes gave tirelessly of their time to make sure that the project was kept on track.

We thank them all for the 100's of hours they have give, often late into the night to see the project come to fruition. May God bless you in your service.

So the project board have had their final meeting, however the fund-raising still continues. A number of events like the Christmas Fayre Fantastic in November. If you have any ideas for fundraising or indeed want to donate please contact Julie or visit our online giving page.

The Lounge Bring and Buy Coffee Morning Success

On Tuesday 29th November, The Lounge Women’s Small Group held a Coffee Morning and Bring and Buy event to raise funds towards the BUILD project.

There were carols playing, Fairtrade coffee pouring and cake being munched. The Bring and Buy stall that reached almost the entire length of main church building was surrounded by a hive of intrigued Christmas present bargain hunters, eventually raising a tremendous £360 towards BUILD.

We saw around 20 visitors from the Lounge, Pre-School parents and Bright Sparks as well as people who were just walking by, come in and sample the hospitality and delicacies on offer.

Our thanks to all who came along, all who donated items and also a Big Thank You to the ladies of The Lounge small group for all their hard work!

Fundraising: Come Dine With Me, book a Table Now!

The next fundraising Supper Club with 25% of profits going to BUILD is due to take place on September 17th 2011.

Featuring 2 delicious courses for only £15. A fun evening in salubrious surroundings is guaranteed.

So here is a little write-up on the last Supper Club evening which was enjoyed by all...

So far most people I invited hadn’t even heard of a supper club, but once they understood the concept they were very enthusiastic. One guest told me she enjoyed it much more than a restaurant as the standard was the same but she felt much more relaxed, while the atmosphere was unique. What a lovely compliment!

I’ve put together some photos to give a feeling of the evening. In fact, the Sunday Mirror sent a photographer from their magazine Homes & Holidays. I don’t know when the Supper Club will feature, but we certainly had to pose for enough photos – not easy while trying to cook for 16 people while my 2 year old son is upstairs suffering badly with a cold and asthma. It is interesting that the photographer said “I don’t know if you are mad or brave”, I think a good mix of both. However, the guests were happy and there was plenty of laughter to be heard. Lots of people stayed late chatting at their tables even after coffee had been cleared away, a sign that everyone enjoyed themselves.

Sally and the church would also like to say a special thank you to the team who were completely fabulous. Isabella , Michael, Eleanor, Catriona, Euan, Dawn, Vanessa, Joshua, Clare, Steve, Karen, Sarah. Sally says, "I couldn’t have done it without you. I hope you had a great time too."

The writings on the wall. Pledge day generosity and thanks

Sunday 15th May 2011 saw another of the BUILD pledge day's at LRBC. The special service which involved a prayer walk for the building project and for safety and security of those working on the site. It was powerful to see over 200 people young and old walking the LRBC island site asking God to use the site and project for his will and glory. As we walked we were reminded of the generosity and sacrifice of former generations of the LRBC community. The workman had cleared the area of shrubs and bushes in front of the main hall. Their hard work revealing inlaid stones with the names of those that had given sacrificially to provide facilities used by those of their time and up until the present day.

We thank God for the commitment of generations past in providing for the community of Leigh-on-Sea and pray that we can rise to the challenge, sacrificially giving and providing facilities that connect people, engage community and glorify God.

Over £700,000 has been raised so far, praise God for His generosity expressed by the people and friends of LRBC.
Sunday saw a tremendous £7,229 pledged and donated. Thank you.

Bowling Fundraiser: Bowled over by success

Bowled over: having fun on the lanes

A great time was by all who attended the Ten Pin Bowling night organised by Billie Thornton.

Over 50 LRBC members and friends joined together to pit their skills against the ten pins at Broadway Bowl.

After 2 games and over 2 hours of fun it is estimated that over £300 was raised towards BUILD.

The final amount is still to be announced - so watch this space.

A big thank you to Billie for all her efforts in organising this great event and those who gave up their time to attend.
