BUILD Bi-Weekly Update: Sunday 26 September 2010

This is the second of our bi-weekly reports regarding the BUILD Project. So, what have we been up to over the last couple of weeks?
  • The Funding Options for the project were presented to Church Members at the Church Meeting which took place on Thursday 16th September and again after the morning service on Sunday. A series of meetings have been planned, for details see below. Particularly, if you are a church member, please pick up a summary sheet of the options and prayerfully consider the way forward.
  • This week, the Leadership Team, discussed and agreed the scope of the mechanical and electrical works to be included in the BUILD contract, the Design Team ( (the professionals employed on the project) have been instructed accordingly.
  • This week we have received a grant of £2500 from a local charity, the Rosca Trust. PTL!
  • The Development Team met with Clifford, our architect, on Wednesday, 22 September to discuss the details of the design. Top of the list was the design of the toilet block in the new welcome area. Clifford has been asked to draw up options so that we can consult with the church family as to the best option.
  • The Fund-raising Team met on Monday evening this week, top of their agenda was the Christmas Fayre. The date for this event is Saturday 20th November; please make sure it is your diaries.
What are we going to be up to in the next couple of weeks:
  • There are two opportunities to discuss the funding options. Today, after the morning service, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and to share your thoughts with members of the Project Board and church Leadership in the Stables Lounge. Also there will be a meeting after the morning service on Sunday 3 October to share in the thinking and feedback to date.
  • On Sunday 17th October a Special Church Meeting will be held after the morning service to agree resolutions arising from the preceding discussions. Provision will be made for children to be cared for.
  • The detailed design will be discussed with Pre-school staff on Thursday 7 October.
  • The Project Board next meets on Monday 11 October.
Keep on praying at this critical time for the BUILD Project; it’s a fantastic opportunity to build one another’s faith.

Please do not hesitate to contact either Jane or Julie in the Church Office 01702 478698 for further info.

During this period let’s be prayerful, let’s trust God and let’s grow in faith.

BUILD Bi-Weekly Update: Sunday 12 September 2010

‘It’s going to be a very busy and exciting period for LRBC with regard to the BUILD (Enhancement) Project.  We thought the best way to keep everybody up to date was to report bi-weekly in the Update. So here goes, what we have been up to:
  • Over the Summer the Leadership Team have been considering the various available funding options.  To find out more on this make sure you are present at the Church Meeting on Thursday 16 September.
  •  Also our consultants have been instructed to move on with the detailed design of the Project.  This means Clifford Patten, our architect, has drawn up the programme and all the other professionals are working with him to accomplish our aim of starting on site in the first Quarter of next year.
  • Specifically, Kettridge Consultants (Mechanical and Electrical Engineers) have surveyed the existing installations across the premises.  We are waiting for their recommendations regarding the best options for efficiently heating the site.
  • The Structural Engineer, David Richards from Ken Rush Associates has visited the site.  Four trial pits were dug, two each on the southern elevations of the Sanctuary and the Main Hall, in order to determine the condition of the existing foundations.  The existing drains were also inspected!
  •  Julie (our finance person) has been liaising with the Baptist Union regarding a loan (for more details on this, come to the Church Meeting on 16 September)
What we are going to be up to in the next couple of weeks:
  • On receipt of recommendations from Kettridge Consultants we will be working out the scope of the work to be included in the build contract.
  • BUILD Presentation at the Church Meeting
  • Continuing prayerful deliberation of the funding options by all the church family.
  • The Architect and Structural Engineer will be meeting to work out the principles and details of the structural work in the project.
Please do not hesitate to contact either Jane or Julie in the Church Office for any further information.  During this period let’s be prayerful, let’s trust God and let’s grow in faith.
